Positive: Managed by an old couple. Rooms and shared bathrooms are clean. Free to use the kitchen. Excellent breakfast. The place is a bit far from town but for dinner, there is a restaurant within a short walking distance.

Positive: Perfect stay ! The owners were so nice and friendly. The woman speaks good English and they do their best to inform us on the things to do around. The breakfast was just amazing and generous ! Even the house is really cute and comfortable ! You definitely have to come here if you want to visit the area !

Positive: The best rural experience ever we had in Japan, the nice couple have been so caring and considerate for organising our stay, nice traditional 80 years old traditional 2 storey Japanese house, including our private tour to see Mt Aso and waterfall. Ramen rate for airport pick-up. Chies made beautiful home-made breakfast. Mr Sarai dropped us to Kumamoto castle upon check out and kept our luggage in his house nearby until our hotel check in open. We walked their dogs together and borrowed their bikes riding around local area. Compulsory private lift to supermarket and hot spring. 100% recommended. So much more feel like at home.

Positive: We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

Summary: Our favourite accomodation in Japan, by far.

Positive: It was such a lovely place, we would have liked to stay longer. The owners, an elderly couple, were really nice. They were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and more than we could eat. The tatami room and the futons made us feel welcome in Japan.
